Rise of the Third Power by Steogosoft Games pays tribute to the era of console-style RPGs
There is now a demo available. It’ll be available on Steam until September 8th. Rise of the Third Power will be published by Dangen Entertainment, and its synopsis includes some intriguing details: 1587, 2A — It’s been 15 years since the cannons of the Great War finally fell quiet. The war shook the globe and killed half a generation of men and women on the battlefield. Only the kingdom of Cirinthia and the old Republic of Tariq remained of the numerous actors who had played on the global stage.
Dimitri Noraskov, a hero of the fallen Kingdom of Arkadya, emerged from the ashes with the passage of time. For resigning and consenting to the Treaty of Evenheart, he regarded his monarch as a coward and a traitor. The people felt the same way.
When Noraskov deposed the monarch, they rallied around him. They aided him in reclaiming the territories that had been taken from him. They also backed him up when he built an army. Noraskov hypothesized that the world’s countries were still too exhausted by the Great War to implement the Treaty’s provisions. So far, his gamble has worked out well.
The Arkadyan Empire is showing no signs of slowing down. Many people worried that a repeat of the Great War, which might have been avoided in the past, is now all but unavoidable. However, some people think it can still be prevented…
Rise of the Third Power is a homage to the glory days of the console-style RPG, complete with contemporary conveniences like auto-save and a mix of Japanese and Western-style gameplay and storytelling. Take a look at this mix of East and West, ancient and modern.
Join an eight-person group on a suicide mission to assassinate Arkadyan Emperor Dimitri Noraskov. As players traverse Rin’s perilous environment, they will encounter a mix of comedy, drama, and tragedy. As Rin’s planet heals from the Great War, the power balance remains skewed, with power vacuums that have yet to be filled. Schemers, liars, and betrayers will besiege and assist the player’s group, all while the clock ticks down to a re-enactment of the greatest battle in human history.
Rise of the Third Power has eight playable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, in a combat system created from the ground up. They’re all designed to fight at the same time, eliminating the need for laborious party management. Combine each character’s distinct strengths and weaknesses, research your opponents’ abilities, create your formation, and rush into combat.
Each item discovered, bought, or stolen provides a permanent, one-of-a-kind enhancement for each character. Rather of purchasing replacements, the player invests on improvements. No more purchasing that great helmet in town just to find a better one as a dungeon prize. Each character has three equipment slots, each with eight improvements, for a total of 192 upgrades to discover. The Steam website says, “This approach eliminates the tedium of inventory management while simultaneously providing the completionist something meaningful to search for.”
Rise of the Third Power will be released for PC at an undetermined date. It has the appearance of a DeviantArt game, yet the pixel graphics is very good!
